About Brad Shu

Chinese law, from someone who has practiced it for two decades.

I'm Brad Shu, partner at DHH Law Firm's Shanghai office. For twenty years I've helped foreign companies and investors do business in China — including ten years in the Beijing offices of two US firms, Squire Sanders and Morrison Foerster, and several years at leading local firm Jingtian & Gongcheng.

My practice covers the life of a foreign investment in China: setting up the vehicle (WFOE, JV, or rep office), the contracts it signs, the people it hires, the compliance regimes it lives under, and the disputes it hopes to avoid.

I write this site because too much of what passes for English-language commentary on Chinese law is secondhand, outdated, or written to sell services rather than to explain. Everything here is firsthand — written and fact-checked by me, with the underlying regulations cited so you can verify.
